The Kurdistan liberation struggle has today reached an important point. For the first time in Turkey, the process of a general election is taking part within the framework of the Kurdish question.
The process whereby discussions on democratic autonomy toward the resolution of the Kurdish question is also going to determine Turkey's future. The alliances and blocs representing the sections that have been ostracised by the system since the establishment of the Republic have demonstrated a crucial perspective in terms of a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question. By characterising legal Kurdish political activities as “terrorist”, in fear of the alliance of Kurdish people and the forces of democracy in Turkey, the AKP is raiding the houses and offices of Kurdish politicians, arresting and suppressing the people as is being perpetrated in Denizli today. The operation against Kurdish politicians perpetrated in Denizli is a blatant intervention in the election process. The pro-war powers whose policies rely on the failure to solve social problems, in fear of a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question, are resorting to every kind of underhand methods to escalate the psychological warfare in order to sabotage any peaceful solution.
The growth and success of democratic Kurdish politics will also bring the peace process as well as the solution of democratic autonomy onto the agenda. Those who fear this can only be the powers that benefit from a war. The police forces of the AKP and some fascist groups are intensifying their efforts to sabotage and prevent the election related activities of Kurdish democratic politics. Parallel to the operations in Denizli today, fascist cliques and police forces led by the AKP have perpetrated a joint provocative assault in Izmir, Odemis. The fact that such provocative assaults are taking place shortly before the elections is an indication of the AKP's growing intolerance.
In relation to this, the statement of MHP leaders that “Kurdish-Turkish conflict through MHP will not be tolerated” is an important one. However, if the MHP is to be consistent in its attitude, it has to keep its forces away from provocative assaults. They should practice what they are saying. Moreover, Kurdish people should be able to protect themselves against any assaults, but also avoid serving provocative actions in any way. The visit of MHP leader to Amed should be seen as a normal election activity. The racist tendency that it represents based on animosity towards Kurds through anti-democratic principles should not be participated, but our patriotic people should not give way to any incidents or outbursts.
In this sense, we call upon the AKP government to stop the police forces used to assault the people, prevent the unjust attitude of the administration, and stop the biased approach and implementation for the elections to progress within a stable context. It should be understood that nobody will get anywhere with threats and intimidation policies against the Kurdish people. We, as the movement, have been doing our part and will continue to do so in order to ensure that the elections take place in a conflict-free and stable atmosphere despite the assaults on our people as well as the provocative propaganda in the press. However, in response to this we call upon the AKP government and all forces of the Turkish state to adopt the right attitude and show sensitivity. Despite the unjust practices such as election threshold and pressure policies etc, the Kurdish people wish the elections to take place in a fair and stable environment. Because of this, we are also taking the necessary precautions and doing everything we can on our side in order for the elections to take place in stability without any pressure.
Apparently, some foreign forces that do not want a peaceful solution are also engaged in serious attempts to sabotage the process while our country is at a very important stage in terms of bringing a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question. The most striking examples are the simultaneous operations on two associations that carry out Kurdish patriotic activities in Paris, capital of France. This operation, during which Nedim Seven and six other Kurdish patriots have been arrested, has developed into an assault. Violence broke out as the Kurdish people expressed their reaction against the aggressive, inhuman and hostile attitude of French police as a result of which six Kurdish patriots have been wounded, some of them seriously. The purpose of the French government with this attitude is to sabotage the possibility of a democratic solution that is currently in question in Kurdistan. It is an assault that is aimed to strengthen and encourage the pro-war forces in Turkey.
While the AKP is perpetrating arrests in Amed against the legal Kurdish party by calling them 'terrorists', the French state assaults the legal associations carrying out legal activities in its own country and thereby supports the AKP's attitude by arresting and treating Kurdish patriots as terrorists. With this attitude, its message is that it will back up the policies of violence. The attitude of the French government is the product of a policy which stems from those European states that approve and demand the continuity of state terror against the Kurds in pursuit of their own vested interests. We vehemently condemn the attitude of the French government and call upon them to respect the legitimate liberation struggle of the Kurdish people, and end the assaults on their will. We would like to stress the fact that our movement will consider the adoption of a stand against the French government in the face of the continuing of this policy that has been practiced against the Kurds throughout the last four years.
However, before the matter reaches such a point, we call upon all European pro-peace and democratic forces that support the fraternity with our patriotic people to express their democratic reactions and raise their voices against the French government to stop the torture policies perpetrated on our people for the sake of its unjust and dirty purposes.
