Press Release of the KCK 06.09.2011
Presidency of Executive Committee of People’s Union of Kurdistan (KCK)
The ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) on September 5th has ended the conflict between PJAK’s armed forces the East Kurdistan Forces (HRK) and the Islamic Republic of Iran which began on June 17th and intensified intermittently; we believe this is a positive development.
It is evident that PJAK and the Islamic Iranian Republic have mutual problems they must solve. However these problems cannot be solved using violence and military methods, but with dialogue and political means, which are beneficial for both sides. This is why we support the constructive steps taken by PJAK for a ceasefire.
Concurrently, the Islamic Republic of Iran must have realized that despite using the most developed technical apparatus and power in attacks their approach is not correct and acceptable for solving any issues, this is evident from the three-day intensive and violent battle following Ramadan. Therefore we believe that if Iran assesses the ceasefire correctly and takes a positive stance by moving its forces into positions of ceasefire, then the process will develop in a favourable manner for both sides.
We would like to state that we will continue to do whatever is necessary to resolve current issues using political means and negotiations. We would like to reiterate that there should be a mutual continuation of the ceasefire.
As a movement and people we are experiencing a historical and critical period. The daily threats and insistence on war of the AKP state presents signs of what is to come.
It is a well known fact that the approach to our Leader, Abdullah Ocalan is of great sensitivity to our movement and people. This approach can be a reason for a solution or deadlock and peace or war, this is why a responsible approach must be taken.
This fact is well known by the AKP as well. Despite this the AKP state has been implementing total isolation on our Leader for almost two months now. This policy has no grounds in Turkish nor in international law. It is an arbitrary and conscious ploy to escalate social tensions and battles. Our Leader has not been visited by his lawyers or family for nearly two months now.
The policies implemented against our Leader are now at an unacceptable level.
We have anxieties regarding his life and safety. We do not know what conditions he is being kept in or what his health is like. We are warning the AKP state, they must immediately abandon this irresponsible and vindictive behaviour which they will not be able to account for in the eyes of our peoples and history.
We are calling on all patriots, socialists, revolutionaries, democrats and all people who are in support of peace and a political solution to raise their voices and struggles during this period.
We are also calling on the patriotic people of Kurdistan to mobilise against the attacks on the Kurdish Peoples’ Leader Abdullah Ocalan and develop the struggle with great belief and determination and uprise for his freedom.
